Protest art - Protest art refers to the signs, banners, and any other form of creative expression used by activists to convey a particular cause or message. Often used for demonstrations and civil disobedience.

Auto-destructive art - Auto-destructive art is a term invented by the artist Gustav Metzger in the early 1960s and put into circulation by his article 'Machine, Auto-creative and Auto-destructive Art' in the summer 1962 issue of the journal Ark. From 1959 he had made work by spraying acid onto sheets of nylon as a protest against nuclear weapons.

Art for art's sake - "Art for art's sake" is the usual English rendition of a French slogan, 'l'art pour l'art', which is credited to Théophile Gautier (1811–1872).

The period from 1400 to 1600 was a fascinating one in Netherlandish art protest art and history, encompassing the late Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Iconoclasm, the Dutch Revolt, protest art and the northern cities' conversion to the Protestant faith, which put an end to the previously close ties between north protest art and south. This handsome book presents an overview of the period by means of a selection of one hundred works of art in different media taken from the unparalleled collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Eminent authorities place these works in their historical context protest art and discuss their origins, significance, protest art and distinguishing features. The result is an authoritative history of fifteenth protest art and sixteenth-century Netherlandish art. The book is arranged chronologically in three sections, each opening with a brief introduction that sketches the historical protest art and art-historical outlines of the period protest art and each including reproductions protest art and discussions of the works of art. In addition, longer essays in the beginning of the book address such issues as how the function protest art and meaning of works of art change when they become part of a museum; how the picture of Netherlandish art presented by the Rijksmuseum has evolved over the two centuries of its existence; how the works of art came into being; protest art and how protest art and for whom they were made protest art and traded. Although the book focuses on works from the Rijksmuseum, it includes illustrations of key works from other sources as well.
